Second Chance Ministries Year in Review 2022
As usual, every time I sit down to write these re-caps, I stand in awe of the work that God lets us do at Second Chance Ministries. This year we officially opened our THIRD House of Hope! We have expanded our men’s housing program and now offer an “Honor House of Hope” to our male residents who are ready to transition up, but not completely out, of our care yet. The honor house is located directly next door to the main House of Hope and can potentially house 6-8 residents who have earned the privilege of moving into a less supervised, more independent environment. We are SO excited to see it up and running as of December 1, 2022
Our annual fundraiser this year superseded last year’s by almost $5000. Making it our most successful fundraiser ever. The support of our community and donors has continued to grow over the years, and we are truly just so grateful for each one of you and your support! I remember when I first started as a volunteer at Second Chance in 2012, we made about $6000 at our fundraiser and we were so elated. The goodness of our God overwhelms me. Thank you for continually being by our side in this ministry.
Our houses combined have housed over 175 residents since opening, both male and female. In 2022 alone we housed 27 men and 14 women. We also assisted over 300 clients this year with re-entry needs: identification, clothing, documentation, work clothing, hygiene, Walmart cards, tanks of gas, etc.
Our organization continues to have a workforce combined of volunteers, staff, and board members who serve, and give, and love from their own hearts that are surrendered to Jesus Christ. Allen and LuDelle Balek were honored at our fundraiser this year for 16 years of service to Second Chance Ministries. I cant adequately express my appreciation for their devotion to this organization over the years. Allen handles all the things I cant, or don’t want to, and I’m grateful for him.
We added Ali Burd to our office staff this year. Her heart for Jesus and her willingness to love our clientele is truly rare and irreplaceable. We are grateful for her! Vickie Haynes continues to manage our books and help with grants and all the other financial “stuff” that God knows He did not gift me with the ability to take care of! I’m very grateful for her!
Our SLEW of volunteers work in the cracks that not too many other people see; leading Bible studies at the jail, transporting clients to treatment facilities, work, court, etc., answering the frantic phone calls at random times of days, handing out hygiene, clothing, Bibles, and love to those we are so truly honored to serve in this world ~ the incarcerated.
We are look forward to all that 2023 has in store for Second Chance Ministries. Thank you for helping us serve, and love, our clientele like Jesus does!! And thank you for helping us carry on the ministry and heart that Tammy Akovenko set a flame to in 2006.
May God’s love and grace abound in your life,
~ Jeannie
